World AIDS Day 2006

HIV/AIDS and STD Alliance Bangladesh (HASAB) has observed the noble occasion, the "World AIDS Day 2006", on December 01, 2006 in due befitting manner with different events and activities like any other year. Following are the highlights of the activities:

The Rally:

In the morning of the day HASAB has marched a rally from its office building and joined with the National rally of the World AIDS Day 2006 where other national and international organizations participated to raise the voice against HIV and AIDS. It was a large, colorful, well-demonstrated rally with lots of festoons, banners and a Horse-cart. HASAB's staffs, partners and its target population participated in the rally. The rally started from in-front of the parliament house and ended at Bangladesh-China friendship hall by traveling around 2 kilometers.

Participation in the Inaugural Ceremony of the World AIDS Day 2006:

National AIDS and STD Program (NASP) and other Govt. bodies, having commitment to fight HIV/AIDS and STD, has arranged a large assembly at the Bangladesh-China Friendship Hall, enabling participations of all Government and Private sector NGOs and stakeholders engaged in this field. HASAB has also actively participated in the meeting.

Participating in national HIV/AIDS Exhibition 2006:

HASAB has set-up a stall at the National HIV/AIDS Exhibition 2006 where documents on HASAB program & activities were displayed. There were display of photographs, HASAB's IEC and BCC materials on HIV/AIDS including training curriculum and modules. There were also video shows of documents films of HASAB projects. Many people visited HASAB's stall and showed their interest to know more about HASAB.

Counseling booth:

On the occasion of WAD 2006HASAB has set-up a booth within the stall for counseling on HIV and AIDS. There were professional and experienced counselors to attend the people who were interested to be counseled.

Blood Group testing booth:

Besides the counseling booth there was another booth for voluntary Blood Group Testing to the visitors. Enthusiastic people who needed and interested for testing their blood group received the service from this booth without any cost.

Participated in Talk-Show of a National TV Channel:

The Executive Director of HASAB, Dr. Nazneen Akhter participated a Talk Show on NTV, a well-reputed national TV Channel. The episode was specially dedicated and designed for the World AIDS Day 2006 and HASAB, as a pioneer in the field, was chosen for the Talk Show. The program was telecasted in at 08:30 a.m. on World AIDS Day 2006.

Published HASAB's article in National Newspaper:

Occasioning the WAD 2006 a special news-article written by Dr. Dipak Kumar Biswas, Program Manager, HASAB was published in one of the National Newspaper named "Amader Shomoy" on the day of WAD 2006. The write-up was on the theme of World AIDS Day 2006.

Organized dialogue with Media People:

As a part of the World AIDS Day 2006 HASAB has organized a day long dialogue with the media representatives from the most popular national news media and share the experience of HASAB in the field of HIV/AIDS and human rights of the extreme socially excluded people and to convey the alarming situation of HIV/AIDS epidemic and importance of the news media's role concern the issue. The dialogue took place just the day before the WAD 2006.
